Goldy and Godley guide Diamondbacks past Rockies

1B Paul Goldschmidt and SP Zack Godley guide the Arizona Diamondbacks (46-27) past the Colorado Rockies (47-28) as they win 10-3 in the rubber game at Coors Field. The Diamondbacks have now won nine of their last 10 games.

The Rockies took an early lead with CF Charlie Blackmon’s leadoff home run in the first inning. It was his 16th long ball of the season.

Zack Godley needed 26 pitches in order to record his first three outs.

The Diamondbacks tied the game in the second. With one out they hit back-to-back singles by LF Chris Herrmann and CF Rey Fuentes, advancing Herrmann to third base. C Jeff Mathis followed with a groundout, enabling Chris Herrmann to come home for the tying run.

Arizona opened up a big lead in the third inning. RF Jeremy Hazelbaker led off with a single and moved to second base on a groundout by SS Nick Ahmed. Paul Goldschmidt followed with an RBI single to put the Diamondbacks up 2-1.

3B Jake Lamb walked next and 2B Chris Owings homered for the ninth time this year to give Arizona a four-run lead.

Colorado’s SP Antonio Senzatela had a pitch count of 67 after three innings.

The Diamondbacks took an even more commanding lead in the fourth. Jeff Mathis led off the inning with a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Zack Godley. Jeremy Hazelbaker drew a walk next before Nick Ahmed hit an RBI single to put Arizona up 6-1. Paul Goldschmidt, who is on a nine-game hitting streak, followed with his 18th home run of the season to give the Diamondbacks a 9-1 lead.

Antonio Senzatela (9-3) was relieved after 5 innings and 98 pitches. He surrendered 8 hits, 3 walks and 9 earned runs while striking out 3. His ERA and WHIP increased to 4.79 and 1.27, respectively.

The Diamondbacks put double digits on Colorado in the eighth inning. Chris Herrmann led off with a single and moved to second base on a groundout by Rey Fuentes. Zack Godley then showed that he cannot only pitch but hit as well. He singled with two outs and drove in Chris Herrmann for Arizona’s 10th run.

In the bottom of the frame LF Raimed Tapia led off with a single and came home on a double by PH Pat Valaika.

Zack Godley (3-1), who previously retired 13 consecutive batters, was now relieved after 101 pitches. He wound up allowing 4 hits, 1 walk and 3 earned runs while tying a career-high with 8 strikeouts. He now has a 2.53 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP to show for.

With RP Andrew Chafin on the mound and one out Pat Valaika moved to third base on a groundout by SS Alexi Amarista. He came home on an infield single from Charlie Blackmon for the final run of the game.

Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 4 RBI. He is batting .329 and has 64 runs, 18 HR and 64 RBI this season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks return home to host a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies (23-48) from Friday to Monday.

The Colorado Rockies go on the road to play a three-game series at the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers (47-26) from Friday through Sunday.
