3B Matt Davidson grand slams the Chicago White Sox (28-35) to a 6-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles (31-32) in game two of their four-game series.
The Orioles took an early lead in the first inning. LF Joey Rickard led off with a double and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by CF Adam Jones. 3B Manny Machado followed with a single and drove Joey Rickard home for the first run of the game.
The White Sox went ahead in the fourth. LF Melky Cabrera and 1B Jose Abreu hit back-to-back singles and RF Avisail Garcia doubled to drive in two runs for Chicago.
It got even better for the White Sox in the sixth inning. Chicago loaded the bases with a leadoff single from Jose Abreu, Avisail Garcia was hit by a pitch and DH Todd Frazier drew a walk. Matt Davidson stepped to the plate next and hit a grand slam to put the White Sox up 6-1. It was his 12th home run of the season.
Baltimore’s SP Alec Asher (2-5) was relieved straight afterwards. He pitched 5+ innings, surrendering 6 hits, 2 walks and 6 earned runs while striking out 1. His ERA and WHIP increased to 5.05 and 1.29, respectively.
Chicago’s SP Derek Holland (5-6) went 6 innings, allowing 8 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run while fanning 5. He now has a 3.79 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP on the year.
Matt Davidson went 1-for-4 with a four-run homer. He is batting .245 and has 21 runs, 12 HR and 33 RBI this season.
