The Kansas City Chiefs released WR Jeremy Maclin after two seasons with the franchise.

This move is likely salary-cap related as it saves the team $10 million, though leaving the Chiefs with $7.2 million in dead money ($2.4m in 2017, and $4.8m in 2018).

The 29-year old joined Kansas City in 2015, catching 87 passes for 1,088 yards and 8 touchdowns but had his numbers halved last season (44, 536, 2).

The Chiefs feel confident that they still have big-play options in WR Tyreek Hill and TE Travis Kelce going forward.

Kansas City is still in bad shape in terms of salary cap and may have to look at QB Alex Smith as another victim in 2018.

The Baltimore Ravens seem to be the most likely landing spot for Jeremy Maclin. The Ravens are desperate for proven receivers after the departures of Steve Smith Sr. (retired) and WR Kamar Aiken (Colts) and a potentially career-ending injury to TE Dennis Pitta (hip). He would also be reunited with OC Marty Mornhinweg, who was Maclin’s coordinator in Philadelphia.

Jeremy Maclin will definitely draw plenty of interest from receiver-needy teams.
