Jacob deGrom displays a dominant performance as the New York Mets (17-23) shut out the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (22-22) 3-0 in the opener of their three-game series to end their seven-game losing streak.

New York’s ace, now 3-1, worked 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 walks while fanning 9. His ERA and WHIP improved to 3.56 and 1.31, respectively.

Jacob deGrom cruised through six innings and only found himself in trouble after feeling some discomfort in his right ring finger. He wound up loading the bases with no outs but managed to get out of the jam unscathed.

The Mets opened the score in the first inning. LF Cameron Maybin misjudged a line drive from leadoff hitter LF Michael Conforto and let it bounce for a single. SS Jose Reyes followed with a successful bunt because 1B C.J. Cron did not get the foot on the base in time for the out after C Martin Maldonado threw the ball to him.

With two outs, CF Curtis Granderson had to settle for a ground-rule RBI double. He hit the ball between tarp and wall in shallow left field and two runs scored initially but 3B umpire Ben May changed his decision after he took a closer look at the position of the ball.

New York doubled their lead in the sixth. 2B Neil Walker led the inning off with a single. With two outs 1B Lucas Duda was intentionally walked and C Rene Rivera took advantage of the runner in scoring position, batting Neil Walker in with a single.

Michael Conforto added another run in the seventh inning with a leadoff homer. It was his 11th long ball of the season.

CL Addison Reed pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 5th save of the year. He posts a 3.32 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP in 2017.

Angels SP Ricky Nolasco (2-3) went 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 walks and 1 earned run while striking out 4. He now has a 4.01 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP on the season.

Michael Conforto went 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 1 RBI. He is batting .319 and has 28 runs, 11 HR and 27 RBI this year.
