C Ryan Hanigan comes up big in his debut for the Colorado Rockies (18-11) as they win at the San Diego Padres (12-18) 3-2 after 11 innings in the rubber game.
The 36-year old veteran hit a home run and supplied the game-winning RBI for Colorado. The Rockies signed Ryan Hanigan to a Triple-A deal with Albuquerque on 28 March and called him up yesterday after C Tony Wolters was diagnosed with a concussion.
The game came to a 10 minute standstill in the ninth inning because a fan was hit by a broken bat from San Diego’s C Hector Sanchez. Medical personnel tended to the woman who seemed alert when she was wheeled out of the stadium with a bandage on her head.
The Rockies took an early lead in the second inning. Three consecutive singles from LF Ian Desmond, 1B Mark Reynolds and SS Alexi Amarista resulted in Colorado’s first run of the game.
Ryan Hanigan’s two-out home run in the seventh put the Rockies up 2-0.
The Padres halved the deficit in the bottom of the frame. 2B Yangervis Solarte walked with one out and scored on a double by RF Hunter Renfroe.
San Diego tied the game one inning later. Walks from PH Luis Sardinas, CF Manuel Margot and 1B Wil Myers loaded the bases with one out. Yangervis Solarte hit into fielder’s choice next but Luis Sardinas managed to come home for the tying run.
With two outs in the 11th inning, Colorado loaded the bases with Ian Desmond, Mark Reynolds and Alexi Amarista. Ryan Hanigan followed with an infield single and drove Ian Desmond home for the game-winning run.
CL Greg Holland pitched a one-hit inning to earn his 12th save of the season. He now posts a 1.38 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP on the year.
Colorado’s SP Kyle Freeland had a dominant 6.1 innings but pitched himself into some trouble after the 19th out. He wound up allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run while striking out 4. His ERA and WHIP improved to 2.65 and 1.32, respectively.
San Diego’s SP Luis Perdomo worked 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run while fanning 5. He now has a 4.03 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP on the season.
Ryan Hanigan went 3-for-5 with 1 run, 1 HR and 2 RBI.
