Cardinals come from behind against Brewers

The St. Louis Cardinals (8-10) come from behind to win at the Milwaukee Brewers (9-10) 4-1 as they take a 2-1 lead in their four-game series.

It was a game of two teams going in opposite directions. St. Louis won five of their last six games whereas Milwaukee lost four of their last five.

The Brewers were the first team to score. 2B Jonathan Villar led off the first inning with an infield single and moved to second base on a walk by 1B Eric Thames. 3B Travis Shaw doubled with one out and drove in Jonathan Villar to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals tied the game in the fourth. CF Randal Grichuk got on base with a one-out double. 2B Kolten Wong popped out next but a throwing error from Ryan Braun to second base enabled Randal Grichuk to come home.

PH Aledmys Diaz gave St. Louis the go-ahead run with a leadoff homer in the seventh inning. It was his fourth long ball of the season.

The Cardinals put two more runs on the scoreboard in the ninth. 1B Matt Carpenter hit a two-out single and crossed home plate on a triple by Jedd Gyorko, who went on to come home as well thanks to a throwing error from RF Domingo Santana.

CL Seung-hwan OH closed out the game with a perfect inning to earn his 4th save of the year. His ERA and WHIP improved to 6.23 and 1.62, respectively.

St. Louis’ SP Lance Lynn (2-1) worked 6 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run while fanning 7. He now has a 2.70 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP this season.

Milwaukee’s SP Chase Anderson pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. He now has an impressive 1.13 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP to show for this year.
