Twins rally past Tigers with strong Inning

The Minnesota Twins (8-8) rally past the Detroit Tigers (8-8) to win 6-3 in the opener of their three-game series.

The Tigers took the lead in the third inning. 3B Nicholas Castellanos hit a two-out single and advanced to third base on a single by 1B Miguel Cabrera.

DH Victor Martinez followed with another single and moved Miggy Cabrera to second base while driving in Nicholas Castellanos for the first run of the game.

LF Justin Upton doubled next and drove Miggy Cabrera home for a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Detroit scored another run with a two-out homer by C James McCann. It was his fourth long ball of the season.

The Twins turned the came around in the bottom of the frame. They loaded the bases with three consecutive walks from RF Max Kepler, 3B Miguel Sano and 1B Joe Mauer.

DH Robbie Grossman followed with a single and drove in Max Kepler and Miguel Sano for two runs.

C Jason Castro grounded out next but Joe Mauer and Robbie Grossman advanced to third and second base, respectively.

SS Jorge Polanco followed with an RBI single and LF Eddie Rosario hit a base-clearing home run to put the Twins up 6-3.

CL Brandon Kintzler pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. He still has a perfect ERA with a 0.95 WHIP.

Detroit’s SP Justin Verlander (1-2) worked 5 innings, giving up 3 hits, 6 walks and 4 earned runs while striking out 4. He now has a 6.04 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP on the year.

Minnesota’s SP Hector Santiago (2-1) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, 1 walk and 3 earned runs while fanning 6. He now posts a 2.19 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP this season.

Eddie Rosario went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer. He is now batting .226 and has 2 runs, 1 HR and 7 RBI this year.
