Angels surge to win at Astros

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (7-8) surge to win at the Houston Astros (9-5) 5-2 in game two of their four-game series. The Halos end their six-game losing streak as well as Houston’s five-game winning streak.

Los Angeles' SS Andrelton Simmons scored the first run of the game with a two-out homer in the second inning.

Houston took the lead in the third inning. 1B Yuli Gurriel hit a leadoff home run and CF George Springer homered with one out to put the Astros up 2-1. It was George Springer’s league-leading seventh long ball of the year.

The Angels came out with hot bats in the fifth to gain the upper hand. C Martin Maldonado reached on an infield single to lead off the inning and moved to second base on a single by 3B Yunel Escobar.

CF Mike Trout doubled with one out and drove in Martin Maldonado for the tying run. DH Albert Pujols followed and cleared the bases with his 60th career home run against the Astros.

CL Cam Bedrosian pitched two scoreless innings to earn his third save of the season. He has yet to surrender an earned run and posts a 0.83 WHIP in five appearances.

Los Angeles' SP Ricky Nolasco (1-2) worked 6 innings, allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 3. He now has a 4.76 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP on the year.

Houston’s SP Joe Musgrove (1-1) pitched 5 innings, giving up 8 hits, 1 walk and 5 earned runs while fanning 5. His ERA and WHIP stand at 5.87 and 1.63, respectively.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer. He is now batting .204 and has 4 runs, 2 HR and 11 RBI this season.
