White Sox hold on to beat Indians

The Chicago White Sox (3-4) hold on to beat the Cleveland Indians (4-4) 2-1 to tie their three-game series at Progressive Field.

The White Sox opened the score in the second inning. DH Cody Asche led off with a walk and advanced to third base on a ground rule double by RF Avisail Garcia. 3B Matt Davidson followed with a single and drove in two runs for the lead.

It took the Indians until the eighth inning to score their only run of the game. 1B Carlos Santana reached on an infield single to begin the frame and moved to third base on a double from SS Francisco Lindor. LF Michael Brantley grounded out next but Carlos Santana managed to cross home plate to cut the deficit to one run.

CL David Robertson pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save of the season. He has a 0.00 ERA and a 0.33 WHIP after three appearances.

Chicago’s SP Derek Holland (1-1) worked 6 innings, allowing 1 hit and 4 walks while striking out 4. He now has a 1.50 ERA with a 0.83 WHIP on the year.

Cleveland’s SP Danny Salazar (0-1) pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned runs while fanning 11. He posts a 4.63 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP this season.
