Braves win at Mets in Extra Innings

The Atlanta Braves (1-1) win at the New York Mets (1-1) 3-1 in 12 innings to tie their three-game series.

New York’s RF Jay Bruce scored the first run of the game with a leadoff homer in the fifth inning.

The Braves tied the game in the seventh. RF Nick Markakis hit a one-out triple and 2B Brandon Phillps walked next. 3B Adonis Garcia followed with a double to drive in Nick Markakis for a score of 1-1. RP Hansel Robles went on to load the bases but RP Jerry Blevins retired the side without any further damage.

Atlanta put the game out of reach in the 12th inning. C Kurt Suzuki hit a leadoff single and was immediately replaced with PR Chase d’Arnaud. CF Ender Inciarte walked with one out, advancing Chase d’Arnaud to second base. A groundout by SS Dansby Swanson moved Chase d’Arnaud and Ender Inciarte to third and second base, respectively. The Mets chose to intentionally walk 1B Freddie Freeman and loaded the bases.

LF Matt Kemp took advantage of the opportunity and doubled Chase d’Arnaud and Ender Inciarte home to give the Braves a 3-1 lead.

Atlanta’s SP Bartolo Colon worked 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 earned run while striking out 6.

New York’s SP Jacob deGrom pitched 6 scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits and 1 walk while fanning 6.

Matt Kemp went 3-for-5 and recorded 2 RBI. He is batting .444 after two games.
