Houston Astros top Seattle Mariners

The Houston Astros (2-0) beat the Seattle Mariners (0-2) 2-1 to take game two of their four-game series.

Houston’s C Brian McCann opened the score with a one-out home run in the bottom of the third inning.

The Mariners were able to tie the game in the following frame. RF Mitch Haniger hit a leadoff double and advanced to third base on a groundout by 2B Robinson Cano. With two outs, 3B Kyle Seager was intentionally walked and 1B Danny Valencia reached on an infield single, batting Mitch Haniger home for a 1-1 score.

1B Marwin Gonzalez scored the game-winning run for Houston with a leadoff homer in the sixth inning.

CL Ken Giles pitched a one-hit ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Seattle’s SP Hisashi Iwakuma (0-1) worked 6 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. He starts the season with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.

Houston’s SP Lance McCullers Jr. (1-0) pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. He opens the campaign with an ERA of 1.50 and a 1.17 WHIP.
