Cubs beat Indians, extend World Series

The Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians 3-2 in Game Five of the World Series to keep their hopes alive.

3B Jose Ramirez put the Indians up 1-0 with a two-out home run in the second inning. It was his first long ball of the series.

The Cubs took the lead in the fourth. 3B Kris Bryant hit a leadoff homer to tie the game. 1B Anthony Rizzo followed with a double and advanced to third base on a single by LF Ben Zobrist. He came home after a single from SS Addisson Russell to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead.

With one out, 2B Javier Baez singled to load the bases. C David Ross hit a sacrifice fly next to drive in Anthony Rizzo for the third and final run of the inning.

Cleveland cut the deficit to one in the sixth frame. CF Rajai Davis singled with one out and went on to steal second base. SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-out single to drive in Rajai Davis for Cleveland’s second run of the game.

CL Aroldis Chapman pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the save for the Cubs. He allowed 1 hit while striking out 4. In 11 postseason appearances he is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. He previously recorded 3 saves against the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS.

Cleveland’s SP Trevor Bauer (0-2) gave up 6 hits and 3 earned runs in four innings of work, while fanning 7. He has a 5.87 ERA with a 1.83 WHIP in two World Series starts and a 5.54 ERA with a 1.69 WHIP in four playoff appearances.

Chicago’s SP Jon Lester (1-1) pitched 6 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5. In two World Series starts, his ERA and WHIP stand at 3.86 and 1.11, respectively. He is 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in five postseason appearances.

Game Six of the World Series will be at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Tuesday night.
