Chicago Cubs shut out Pittsburgh Pirates

The Chicago Cubs (84-47) shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates (67-63) as they win 3-0 in game two of their three-game series.

2B Javier Baez was hit by a pitch to open the bottom the first inning. 1B Anthony Rizzo drove him in with a one-out home run to give Chicago an early 2-0 lead.

The Cubs extended their lead one inning later. SS Addison Russell drew a leadoff walk and went on to steal second base. C Miguel Montero followed with a single to drive Addison Russell home but was tagged out as he tried to advance to second base.

CL Aroldis Chapman pitched a spotless ninth to earn his 11th save for the Cubs and 31st of the season. He now posts a 1.15 ERA with a 0.77 WHIP.

Pittsburgh’s SP Chad Kuhl (3-2) went 5 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks and 3 earned runs while fanning 5. He has a 3.70 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP on the year.

Chicago’s SP Kyle Hendricks (13-7) worked 7 scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. His ERA and WHIP improved to 2.09 and a magnificent 0.98, respectively.

1B Anthony Rizzo went 1-for-4 with 1 run, 1 HR and 2 RBI. He is batting .294 and has 78 runs, 26 HR and 93 RBI on the season.
