Cleveland Indians outhomer Oakland A's

The Cleveland Indians (59-42) hit four home runs as they beat the Oakland Athletics (47-57) 6-3 in game two of their three-game series.

The A’s were the first team to score in the first inning. With one out, CF Jake Smolinski drew a walk and RF Josh Reddick singled. One out later, 3B Danny Valencia hit another single and drove in Jake Smolinski for the lead.

Cleveland tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a one-out home run from 2B Jason Kipnis. It was his 17th long ball of the year.

The Indians took the lead in the second inning with LF Jose Ramirez’ fifth homer of the season.

DH Billy Butler’s two-out home run in the top of the fourth tied the game but his exchange of words with C Chris Gimenez didn’t go down well with the fans and seemed to motivate Cleveland’s hitters.

RF Abraham Almonte hit his first home run of the year to start the bottom of the frame. CF Rajai Davis singled with one out and came home on a double by Jason Kipnis. 1B Mike Napoli homered with two outs to put the Indians up 6-2.

In the ninth inning, Oakland cut the deficit to three runs with a two-out homer from SS Marcus Semien. It was his 22nd dinger of the season.

Oakland’s SP Dillon Overton (1-2) pitched only 3.1 innings, surrendering 10 hits, 1 walk and 5 earned runs while striking out 1. His ERA and WHIP went up to 9.33 and 2.18, respectively.

Cleveland’s Josh Tomlin (11-3) worked 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned runs while fanning 7. He now has a 3.43 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP on the season.

Mike Napoli went 3-for-3 with 1 run, 1 HR and 2 RBI. He is batting .246 with 62 runs, 23 HR and 70 RBI.
