Atlanta Braves top Philadelphia Phillies

The Atlanta Braves (35-67) top the Philadelphia Phillies (47-58) 2-1 in game two of their four-game series.

2B Cesar Hernandez reached on an infield single to open the third inning for Philadelphia. CF Odubel Herrera followed with another single and Cesar Hernandez came home on a fielding error by LF Jace Peterson.

Atlanta turned the deficit into a lead in the bottom of the frame. SS Erick Aybar reached on an infield single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by SP Tyrell Jenkins. Jace Peterson walked next.

2B Gordon Beckham followed with a single to drive Erick Aybar home for the tying run. One out later, RF Nick Markakis singled as well and drove in Jace Peterson for the game-winning run.

CL Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fifth save of the year. He now posts a 4.10 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP.

SP Vince Velasquez (8-3) worked 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned runs while fanning 5. He has a 3.32 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP on the season.

Tyrell Jenkins (1-2) pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. His ERA and WHIP improved to 4.91 and 1.77, respectively. He earned the first win of his big league career.
