The Los Angeles Dodgers sweep the Colorado Rockies as they win 4-1 in the final meeting of their three-game series. The Rockies have now lost five games in a row.
CF Trayce Thompson hit a leadoff home run to put the Dodgers up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. It was his 13th homer of the year.
Los Angeles scored their second run without even hitting a ball. LF Howie Kendrick was hit by a pitch followed by three straight walks to RF Yasiel Puig, C Yasmani Grandal and SP Brandon McCarthy.
With the bases still loaded and two outs, 3B Justin Turner singled and drove in Yasiel Puig for a 3-0 lead. Yasmani Grandal tried to score as well but was tagged out at home plate.
The Rockies got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning when 1B Daniel Descalso homered with one out. It was his second long ball of the season.
The Dodgers responded straight away with a leadoff home run by Yasmani Grandal in the bottom of the frame. He now has eight homers this year.
CL Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 24th save of the year. He posts a 1.34 ERA with a 0.68 WHIP.
Colorado’s SP Jon Gray (5-4) pitched 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 4. He now has a 4.81 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP on the season.
The Dodgers activated Brandon McCarthy (1-0) from the 60-day DL after completing his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. In 5 innings of work he gave up 2 hits and 1 walk while fanning 8. Brandon McCarthy starts the season with a perfect ERA and a 0.60 WHIP.
The Colorado Rockies (37-44) continue their road trip with a three-game series at the division leading San Francisco Giants (52-32) from Monday to Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers (47-37) host the Baltimore Orioles (47-34) for a three-game series from Monday through Wednesday.
