Blue Jays hold on to beat White Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays (41-35) win at the Chicago White Sox (37-38) 10-8 in game two of their three-game series.
The White Sox tie a franchise record, hitting seven home runs but come up short in this high-scoring contest.
Toronto took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. With one out and 2B Devon Travis at third base, the Blue Jays hit three straight doubles by 1B Edwin Encarnacion, LF Michael Saunders and SS Troy Tulowitzki to put three runs on the board.
Devon Travis homered in the top of the next inning to drive in C Josh Thole for another two runs.
In the bottom of the frame and two outs, Chicago responded with back-to-back-to-back solo home runs from 2B Brett Lawrie, C Dioner Navarro and and CF J.B. Shuck. Lawrie’s long ball was an inside-the-park home run.
The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning with a one-out single by 3B Ryan Goins, a walk to Josh Thole and another single from RF Ezequiel Carrera.
With two outs, DH Josh Donaldson drew a walk, bringing Ryan Goins home for the sixth run. Edwin Encarnacion followed with a single and drove in Josh Thole and Ezequiel Carrera to put the Blue Jays up 8-3.
Brett Lawrie hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the frame. He also singled in the sixth inning to drive 3B Todd Frazier home for Chicago’s fifth run.
Chicago’s SS Tim Anderson and DH Alex Avila hit leadoff home runs in back-to-back innings to cut the lead to one run but the Blue Jays had the right answer in the ninth.
Josh Donaldson led off with a single and Edwin Encarnacion drove him in with a double. Encarnacion went on to advance to third base as Michael Saunders reached first base on a fielding error by Brett Lawrie. Troy Tulowitzki followed with a single and Edwin Encarnacion came home for the 10-7 lead.
CL Roberto Osuna earned his 15th save of the season but gave up a home run to RF Adam Eaton. Osuna posts a 2.16 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP on the season.
Toronto’s SP R.A. Dickey (5-8) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 walk and 4 earned runs while fanning 7. He now has a 4.23 ERA and 1.33 WHIP this year.
Chicago’s SP Miguel Gonzalez (1-3) worked 5.1 innings, surrendering 10 hits, 3 walks and 8 earned runs while striking out 2. His ERA and WHIP increased to 5.17 and 1.54, respectively.
Edwin Encarnacion went 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 4 RBI. He is batting .258 this season and has 45 runs, 19 HR and a league-leading 66 RBI.
