Orioles come from behind to beat Rays

The Baltimore Orioles (42-30) come from behind to beat the Tampa Bay Rays (31-40) 6-3 in the opening game of their four-game series.

The Rays took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. 2B Logan Forsythe led off with a double and DH Corey Dickerson homered for the first two runs of the game. 3B Evan Longoria followed with a double and 1B Logan Morrison drove him in with a single to put the Rays up by three.

It took the Orioles until the fifth inning to get on the scoreboard. 1B Chris Davis hit a ground rule double with one out and SS J.J. Hardy’s two-out single drove him home to cut the lead to two.

Baltimore pulled away in the next inning. CF Adam Jones hit a homer with one out to make it a one-run game. Back-to-back singles from 2B Jonathan Schoop and 3B Manny Machado and a walk to DH Mark Trumbo loaded the bases for the Orioles.

Chris Davis followed with a single, driving in Jonathan Schoop and Manny Machado. On the play, Logan Forsythe committed a throwing error to home plate, which enabled Mark Trumbo to score Baltimore’s fifth run.

Manny Machado made it 6-3 with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

CL Zach Britton pitched a one-hit inning in the ninth to earn his 22nd save of the season. He posts a 0.85 ERA with a 0.79 WHIP this year.

Tampa Bay’s SP Matt Moore pitched 6.2 innings, allowing 7 hits, 1 walk and 5 earned runs while fanning 6. He now has a 5.04 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP on the season.

Baltimore’s Yovani Gallardo worked 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits, 2 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 3. His ERA on the season is 6.04 with a 1.69 WHIP.

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 1 RBI. He is batting .320 this season and accounts for 52 runs, 18 HR and 43 RBI.
