Jeff Samardzija goes the Distance in Giants Win

SP Jeff Samardzija pitches a complete game as the San Francisco Giants (42-26) win at the Tampa Bay Rays (31-34) 5-1 to open their three-game series. The Giants are now on a six-game winning streak.
The 31-year old threw 115 pitches and gave up the only run on a two-out homer by SS Brad Miller in the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed 4 hits and struck out 4 as his ERA and WHIP improved to 3.14 and 1.11, respectively.
San Francisco took an early lead in the first inning. 1B Brandon Belt hit a single with two outs and C Buster Posey followed with a double. SS Brandon Crawford drove both in with another double to put the Giants up 2-0.
The Giants doubled their lead in the fourth frame. Brandon Crawford led off the inning with a walk. With one out LF Angel Pagan flied out to center field but C Curt Casali was called for catcher’s interference. Instead of two outs San Francisco had runners at first and second base.
Brandon Crawford and Angel Pagan advanced one base each on a wild pitch and DH Jarrett Parker drew a walk to load the bases. RF Gregor Blanco followed with a single and Brandon Crawford and Angel Pagan came home to give the Giants a 4-0 lead.
Brandon Belt hit a two-out home run in the seventh inning to score San Francisco’s fifth and final run of the game. It was his ninth homer of the season.
SP Chris Archer pitched 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 7. He has a 4.60 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP on the season.
Brandon Belt went 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 1 RBI. He is batting .306 this year and has 33 runs, 9 HR and 34 runs.
