Chris Archer ties Season High in Rays Win

SP Chris Archer ties his season high with 12 strikeouts as the Tampa Bay Rays (26-30) win at the Arizona Diamondbacks (25-35) 6-4 to open their three-game series.
The Diamondbacks opened the score with two runs in the third inning. SP Robbie Ray recorded his first career homer and 1B Paul Goldschmidt hit a one-out double to drive in 2B Jean Segura.
The Rays cut the deficit to one in the fourth inning. With two outs Tampa Bay hit three straight singles by CF Desmond Jennings, SS Taylor Motter and C Curt Casali, resulting in one run from Jennings.
In the next inning Tampa Bay pulled away. LF Mikie Mahtook hit a leadoff double and 2B Tim Beckham followed with a home run, his third of the season, to give the Rays a 3-2 lead.
3B Evan Longoria and 1B Logan Morrison drew back-to-back walks and Desmond Jennings hit a ground rule double with one out, bringing Evan Longoria home.
Arizona decided to relieve Robbie Ray (2-5). He surrendered 8 hits, 3 walks and 5 earned runs while striking out 6. His ERA and WHIP increased to 5.14 and 1.73, respectively.
RP Randall Delgado allowed a sacrifice flyball to Taylor Motter, leading to a run from Logan Morrison and a 5-2 lead for the Rays.
RF David Peralta hit a one-out home run for Arizona in the bottom of the sixth inning. Desmond Jennings responded with a leadoff homer in the top of the seventh to restore Tampa’s three-run lead.
In the bottom of the frame Arizona cut the lead to two runs again. They loaded the bases with a leadoff single by PH Phil Gosselin, Paul Goldschmidt was hit by a pitch with two outs and PH Rickie Weeks Jr. walked.
C Welington Castillo followed with another walk, bringing Phil Gosselin home for Arizona’s fourth and final run of the game.
CL Alex Colome earned his 16th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. He posts a 1.04 ERA with a 0.85 WHIP this year.
Chris Archer (4-7) pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while fanning 12. He now has a 4.73 ERA with a 1.51 WHIP on the season.
Desmond Jennings went 3-for-4 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 2 RBI. He is batting .189 this year and has 14 runs, 4 HR and 13 RBI. He was a triple shy of the cycle.
