Jose Fernandez wins Pitchers’ Duel, fans 14

SP Jose Fernandez strikes out 14, as the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets 1-0 to avoid a sweep in their three-game series.

The only run of the game came in the fifth inning. 2B Derek Dietrich hit a one-out double and C J.T. Realmuto drove him in with an RBI single.

SP Matt Harvey and Jose Fernandez were dominant and retired batters with ease.

CL A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his 18th save of the year. He posts a 1.88 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP.

Matt Harvey (4-8) pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3. His ERA and WHIP improved to 4.95 and 1.44, respectively.

Jose Fernandez (9-2) gave up 4 hits in 7 innings of work. He now has a 2.29 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP on the season. He tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts and matched a franchise record with wins 8 consecutive starts.

The New York Mets (31-24) continue their road trip with a three-game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates (30-25) from Monday to Wednesday.

The Miami Marlins (30-27) travel to the Minnesota Twins (16-39) to play a three-game series from Tuesday through Thursday.
