Brewers come from behind to beat Phillies

The Milwaukee Brewers (26-30) come from behind to win at the Philadelphia Phillies (27-29) 6-3 in game three of their four-game series.

Milwaukee had an ideal start to the game when SS Jonathan Villar hit a home run in the first at-bat of the afternoon.

Philadelphia responded with a three-run inning in the bottom of the second. 1B Tommy Joseph led off with a home run and 2B Cesar Hernandez hit a one-out homer, driving in RF Tyler Goeddel to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead.

The Brewers cut the lead to one in the fourth inning. RF Domingo Santana hit a leadoff single and CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk. The runners advanced one base each after a sacrifice bunt by SP Junior Guerra. Jonathan Villar recorded his third hit in his third at-bat and singled Domingo Santana home.

Milwaukee tied the game in the next inning. C Jonathan Lucroy led off with a triple and 1B Chris Carter’s sacrifice flyball to right field gave him enough time to come home.

Domingo Santana hit a leadoff home run in the eighth inning to give the Brewers a 4-3 lead.

Milwaukee added another two runs in the ninth. 3B Aaron Hill drew a walk to open the inning and Jonathan Lucroy singled with one out. The Brewers had two runners in scoring position after Chris Carter flied out to center field.

2B Scooter Gennett stepped to the plate and drove in Aaron Hill and Jonathan Lucroy with a single to give Milwaukee a three-run cushion.

CL Jeremy Jeffress earned his 15th save of the year with a one-hit inning and the Brewers wound up winning 6-3. He posts a 2.36 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP this year.

Junior Guerra pitched 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 walk and 3 earned runs while striking out 3. He now has a 3.61 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP on the season.

Jeremy Hellickson worked 5 innings, giving up 7 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while fanning 4. His ERA and WHIP increased to 3.80 and 1.21, respectively.

Jonathan Villar went 3-for-5 with 1 run, 1 HR and 2 RBI. He is batting .313 this year and has 31 runs, 5 HR and 25 RBI.
