Royals come from behind to sweep White Sox

The Kansas City Royals come from behind as they beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4 to sweep their three-game series.
The Royals took an early lead in the first inning. 2B Whit Merrifield hit a one-out single and came home on a double from CF Lorenzo Cain. 1B Eric Hosmer followed with a single and drove in Lorenzo Cain for Kansas City’s second run.
The White Sox halved the deficit in the second inning. With one out, 1B Jose Abreu hit a single and advanced to third base on another single from 2B Brett Lawrie. C Dioner Navarro followed with a base hit and drove Jose Abreu home for Chicago’s first score.
Chicago gained the lead in the fifth inning. DH Avisail Garcia walked with one out and SS Tyler Saladino hit a double. RF Adam Eaton grounded out next but drove in Avisail Garcia and moved Tyler Saladino to third base. RF Austin Jackson followed with a single and Tyler Saladino crossed home plate for the 3-2 lead.
The White Sox scored another run in the seventh inning. They loaded the bases with a leadoff single from Dioner Navarro, Tyler Saladino was hit by a pitch and a single from Adam Eaton. Austin Jackson hit a sacrifice flyball to drive in Dioner Navarro but it remained Chicago’s only run in the inning.
With a struggling bullpen in this series, the White Sox were trying to get SP Chris Sale deep into the game but the Royals worked the pitch count up to 118 in the seventh inning.
Chris Sale allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned runs while striking out 7. He now has a 2.29 ERA with a 0.88 WHIP on the season.
The Royals took advantage of the pitching change and came back to win in the eighth inning. Lorenzo Cain hit a one-out solo home run off RP Nate Jones for Kansas City’s third run. It was Cain’s seventh long ball of the season.
Nate Jones went on to load the bases with a double to Eric Hosmer, a walk to DH Kendrys Morales and a single to RF Paulo Orlando. Nate Jones was replaced with RP Matt Albers after issuing another walk to LF Brett Eibner, which resulted in the tying run by Eric Hosmer.
After the pitching change, 3B Cheslor Cuthbert stepped to the plate and hit an infield single to drive in PR Jarrod Dyson for the game-winning run.
CL Wade Davis pitched a 1-2-3 inning to earn his 14th save of the season. He has a 0.96 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP this year.
Kansas City’s SP Edinson Volquez pitched 6 innings giving up 7 hits, 1 walk and 3 earned runs while striking out 5. He has a 3.74 ERA this year with a 1.38 WHIP.
Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 2 RBI. He is batting .292 this season and has 25 runs, 7 HR and 28 RBI.
Austin Jackson left the game in the eighth inning due to turf toe. He is not expected to miss a significant amount of games.
The Chicago White Sox (27-24) continue their road trip with a three-game series at the New York Mets (28-20) from Monday to Wednesday.
The Kansas City Royals (27-22) have a rest day tomorrow before hosting a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (22-26) from Tuesday through Thursday.
