A walk-off home run from RF Curtis Granderson lifts the New York Mets (28-19) over the Los Angeles Dodgers (25-24) 6-5 in the opener of their three-game series.

Los Angeles’ SP Julio Urias had a rough MLB debut, giving up three runs in the first inning. With two outs, SS Asdrubal Cabrera scored on an RBI-double from 2B Neil Walker and CF Juan Lagares’ single drove in LF Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker to give the Mets an early 3-0 lead.

The Dodgers cut the deficit to two runs in the third inning. RF Yasiel Puig drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third base on a single from C Yasmani Grandal. Julio Urias attempted a bunt and reached base on a fielding error by SP Jacob deGrom.

With the bases loaded, 2B Chase Utley hit a sacrifice flyball to center field and Yasiel Puig came home for Los Angeles’ only run of the inning.

Julio Urias’ struggles continued in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, he gave up a hit to Juan Lagares and back-to-back walks to C Kevin Plawecki and 1B Eric Campbell to load the bases. Manager Dave Roberts saw enough and replaced the 19-year old with RP Chris Hatcher, who retired the side.

Julio Urias surrendered 5 hits, 4 walks and 3 earned runs, resulting in a 10.13 ERA and a 3.38 WHIP. He struck out three batters.

Solo home runs from 3B David Wright in the fourth inning and Juan Lagares in the fifth gave the Mets a 5-1 lead. It was Lagares’ first long ball of the season.

New York’s manager Terry Collins used CL Jeurys Familia in the top of the ninth inning to secure the win but the Mets blew their four-run lead.

1B Adrian Gonzalez, LF Howie Kendrick and Yasiel Puig hit singles to load the bases with one out. Yasmani Grandal followed with a walk and Adrian Gonzalez came home for Los Angeles’ second run of the game.

With two outs, Chase Utley came to the plate. He doubled to right center field and drove in three runs to tie the game. Los Angeles’ celebrations, however, did not last long.

Curtis Granderson, New York’s first batter in the bottom of the ninth, hit a walk-off home run and the Mets got away with the win.

SP Jacob deGrom pitched 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks and 1 earned run while striking out 7. He lowered his ERA and WHIP to 2.81 and 1.19, respectively.

Juan Lagares went 3-for-4 with 1 run, 1 HR and 3 RBI. He is now batting .300 on the season and has 5 runs, 1 HR and 5 RBI.
