The Kansas City Royals (22-20) win at the Chicago White Sox (25-18) 2-1 as they take a 2-0 lead in their three-game series.

The Royals scored their first run in the top of the opening inning. Leadoff hitter SS Alcides Escobar singled to right field and advanced to third base on a one-out single by CF Lorenzo Cain. 1B Eric Hosmer followed with a sacrifice fly ball and Alcides Escobar came home for the 1-0 lead.

Lorenzo Cain scored Kansas City’s second run with a leadoff homer in the sixth inning. It was his sixth home run of the season.

The White Sox found themselves in a promising position in the seventh inning. They loaded the bases after a leadoff walk by C Dioner Navarro, a single from SS Tyler Saladino and a bunt by RF Adam Eaton, which 3B Mike Moustakas fumbled.

The Royals brought in RP Joakim Soria for RP Brian Flynn to hold the lead. DH Jose Abreu, the first batter he faced, grounded into double play but Dioner Navarro scored and Tyler Saladino moved to third base.

3B Todd Frazier grounded out next and the Royals put an end to a potentially successful comeback for the White Sox.

CL Wade Davis recorded his 11th save of the season to secure the win for the Royals. He posts an impressive 1.15 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP this year.

Kansas City’s SP Danny Duffy filled in for injured starter Kris Medlen again and was limited to roughly 60 pitches. He worked 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 4.

SP Miguel Gonzalez (0-1) pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 8. He has a 4.57 ERA with a 1.62 WHIP on the season.

Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with 1 run, 1 HR and 1 RBI. He is batting .271 this season and has 21 runs, 6 HR and 22 RBI.
