Yankees homer three times in Win over Royals

The New York Yankees hit three home runs in a 7-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals to win their four-game series.
2B Starlin Castro went long in the first inning to give the Yankees a quick 1-0 lead. It was Castro’s 4th home run of the season.
RF Carlos Beltran drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the second inning. Two outs later, 3B Chase Headley drove him in with the second homer of the night. This happened to be Headley’s first extra-base hit of the season.
In the fourth inning Kansas City’s LF Alex Gordon demonstrated his power by hitting a one-out home run 412 ft. into the bleachers. The Royals added another run when 3B Cheslor Cuthbert hit a two-out double and scored on a single by 2B Christian Colon.
The Yankees extended their lead to three runs again in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Carlos Beltran drew his second walk of the game and SS Didi Gregorius hit a two-out home run to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.
The Royals cut the deficit to two in the top of the fifth inning. With two-outs SP Nathan Eovaldi surrendered a double to 1B Eric Hosmer and walked DH Kendrys Morales. Alex Gordon followed with a single and drove in Eric Hosmer.
Nathan Eovaldi (3-2) managed to get the third out but it was his last inning of the night. He finished with 8 hits, 2 walks, 3 earned runs and 3 strikeouts. He now has a 4.85 ERA on the season with a 1.34 WHIP.
Kansas City’s SP Ian Kennedy, a former New York Yankee, pitched into the seventh inning but was relieved after walking Chase Headley with one out and giving up a single to C Austin Romine.
RP Chien-Ming Wang took over and loaded the bases by walking LF Brett Gardner. Starlin Castro followed with a single to shallow right and batted Chase Headly home for a 6-3 lead.
With the bases still loaded, Chien-Ming Wang struck out 1B Mark Teixeira but a walk to DH Brian McCann brought in another run for the Yankees.
Ian Kennedy (4-3) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 7 earned runs while striking out 6. His ERA and WHIP rose to 3.25 and 1.11, respectively.
The New York Yankees (14-19) host the Chicago White Sox (23-12) for a three-game series from Friday to Sunday.
The Kansas City Royals (16-18) return home to play a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves (8-25) from Friday through Sunday.
