Diamondbacks prevail in 11 Innings

The Arizona Diamondbacks prevail in 11 innings as they win at the Atlanta Braves 5-3 to sweep their three-game series.
Both starting pitchers were in command for most of the game. Arizona’s Patrick Corbin pitched 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz worked 7 innings, surrendering 5 hits and 2 earned runs while fanning 8.
It took Arizona five innings to score the first run of the game. Patrick Corbin stepped to the plate with two outs and CF Chris Owings on first base. It should have been an easy out but Corbin tripled to center field and drove in Owings for the lead.
The Diamondbacks doubled their lead in the seventh inning with a two-out home run from C Chris Herrmann.
Arizona looked like the winning side when they scored another run in the eighth inning. 2B Jean Segura hit a one-out double and came home after an RBI-single by 3B Jake Lamb.
The Braves never gave up and struck back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. RF Nick Markakis hit a leadoff single and advanced to third base on another single from CF Ender Inciarte. C Tyler Flowers’ one-out single drove in Nick Markakis for a run and moved Ender Inciarte to second base.
LF Jeff Francoeur followed with a double to left field and batted in Ender Inciarte and PR Mallex Smith for the tying run.
In the 11th inning Chris Herrmann hit a two-run homer with two outs which decided the game in favor of Arizona. It was Herrmann’s second home run of the day and the first multi-home run game of his career.
Chris Herrmann went 2-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 HR and 3 RBI. He is batting .238 this season and has 6 runs, 4 HR and 10 RBI.
Atlanta’s pitchers struck out a combined 16 batters.
The Arizona Diamondbacks (15-18) travel to the Colorado Rockies (14-16) for a three-game series from Monday to Wednesday.
After a rest day the Atlanta Braves (7-23) host the Philadelphia Phillies (18-14) from Tuesday through Thursday.
