Angels surge past Brewers

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim score five runs late in the game to win the three-game series finale at the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3.

Milwaukee took an early lead with a solo home run from 3B Hernan Perez in the second inning.

The Angels struck back in the third. 2B Johnny Giavotella hit a leadoff double and 3B Yunel Escobar moved him to third base on a sacrifice bunt. LF Rafael Ortega followed with a single and drove in Johnny Giavotella for the tying run.

Rafael Ortega went on to steal second base with CF Mike Trout at the plate. Trout hammered a ball deep into center field for an RBI-triple as Rafael Ortega scored the go-ahead run.

The Brewers tied the game in the fifth inning. Three consecutive singles from SS Jonathan Villar, RF Alex Presley and LF Ryan Braun resulted in one run.

In the sixth inning and one out, Angels’ SP Hector Santiago was relieved after he loaded the bases. His pitch count was at 116. RP Cam Bedrosian struck out the first batter but a wild pitch moments later allowed Hernan Perez to score his second run of the game.

Hector Santiago pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 8 hits, 4 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 4. He now has a 3.58 ERA and 1.22 WHIP this season.

The Angels scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to avoid a series sweep. Mike Trout led the inning off with a home run to tie the game.

With two runners on base and two outs, PH C.J. Cron doubled to left field and drove in SS Andrelton Simmons for a 4-3 lead. Johnny Giavotella followed and came up big again. He singled and brought C Geovany Soto and C.J. Cron home for two more runs.

The Halos added another run in the final inning when RF Kole Calhoun batted Yunel Escobar in for the final score of 7-3.

Milwaukee’s SP Zach Davies pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 2 earned runs while striking out 3. His ERA and WHIP improved to 6.98 and 1.97, respectively.

Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with 1 run, 1 HR and 2 RBI. He is batting .317 this season and has 16 runs, 7 HR and 22 RBI.

The Milwaukee Brewers (11-16) travel to the Cincinnati Reds (11-17) to play a four-game series from Thursday to Sunday.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (13-15) get a day off before hosting the Tampa Bay Rays (11-14) from Friday through Sunday.
