The Kansas City Royals scored four runs in the seventh inning as they beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-1.

It was a close game up to this point but the defending World Series Champions took advantage of a tiring SP Mike Wright and pummelled him for three runs in the seventh inning before he was relieved.

Baltimore’s Mike Wright pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 4. His ERA is 6.23 this season with a 1.33 WHIP.

The Orioles scored their only run in the first inning. SS Manny Machado reached first base on a walk and RF Mark Trumbo’s single drove him in with two outs.

The Royals gained the lead with two two-out single home runs by LF Alex Gordon and 1B Eric Hosmer in the fourth and sixth inning, respectively.

In the seventh inning the game got out of reach for the Orioles. 2B Christian Colon, C Drew Butera and 3B Mike Moustakas each hit an RBI-double and the finishing touch of the game came from CF Lorenzo Cain’s two-out single, which brought Mike Moustakas home.

Kansas City’s SP Yordano Ventura pitched a seven-inning gem, giving up 3 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run, while striking out 4. He has a 2.35 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and a 2-0 record after four starts this season.

Alex Gordon went 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 1 HR and 1RBI. He is now batting .246 on the season and has 10 runs, 2 HR and 5 RBI.

The Kansas City Royals (12-6) are playing a three-game series at the Los Angeles Angels (8-11) from Monday to Wednesday next. The Baltimore Orioles (11-6) are travelling to the Tampa Bay Rays (8-10) for a three-game series from Monday through Wednesday.
