LF Kiké Hernandez and multiple errors cost the San Francisco Giants dearly, as the Los Angeles Dodgers win the series opener between the NL West favorites 7-3.

Hernandez went the distance in each of his first two at-bats. He finished the game with 3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 homers and 4 RBI. Los Angeles’ leadoff hitter now has a batting average of .440 on the season, 5 runs, 2 home runs and 7 RBI.

Los Angeles’ SP Clayton Kershaw clearly won the battle of the aces against SP Madison Bumgarner. Kershaw pitched 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 6. After two games, both wins, he has an ERA of 1.64 and a 0.55 WHIP.

Bumgarner pitched 5 innings and was relieved with two runners on base. He gave up 8 hits while striking out 7 and was held accountable for 4 earned runs.

Errors from SS Kelby Tomlinson and 2B Joe Panik in the 4th inning kept loading the bases for the Dodgers, who turned this opportunity into 4 runs and a decisive 6-1 lead.

SS Charlie Culberson drove in 3 runs for the Dodgers and scored 1 run himself. He is batting .333 this season with 1 run and 4 RBI.

The Giants scored two runs (Bumgarner and LF Angel Pagan) on wild pitches from Clayton Kershaw.

SP Johnny Cueto (SF) and SP Scott Kazmir (LAD) will be on the mound for game 2 of the three-game series.
