The Kansas City Royals signed their third baseman to a new 2-year contract, which gives Mike Moustakas $5.6 million in 2016 and $8.7 million in 2017 and avoids arbitration.

The 27-year old is coming off his best season in the Major League, batting .284 and hitting 22 home runs as well as 84 RBI. This earned him his first All-Star appearance since entering the league in 2011.

In 2015 Mike Moustakas set career-highs with 73 runs, 156 hits, 22 homers, 84 RBI, a .284 batting average, an OBP of .348, a .470 slugging percentage and an OPS of .817.

His performance carried over into the playoffs as he helped the Royals to win their second World Series title since 1985. He batted .353 with 3 RBI against the New York Mets and delivered the game-winning hit in Game 4 to break a 3-3 tie in the 8th inning.

With Kansas City’s core still intact the Royals are among the favorites to win another World Series title.
