D Will Butcher records 3 assists in the first game of his NHL career as the New Jersey Devils (1-0-0) defeat the Colorado Avalanche (1-1-1) 4-1. All his points came on the power play. Ironically, the Colorado Avalanche drafted the 22-year old in 2013.

RW Mats Zuccarello scores 1 goal and 3 assists as the New York Rangers (0-2-0) lose at the Toronto Maple Leafs (2-0-0) 8-5. The 30-year old Norwegian now has 1 goal and 4 assists on the season and is tied for 5th in the NHL with 5 points.

G Matt Murray saves 26 shots to record his first shutout of the season as the Pittsburgh Penguins (1-1-1) blank the Nashville Predators (0-2-0) 4-0. The 23-year old is 1-0-1 on the year with a 3.84 GAA and a .879 SV%.

LW Alex Ovechkin scores 4 goals as the Washington Capitals (2-0-0) rout the Montreal Canadiens (1-1-0) 6-1. The 32-year old now has 7 goals in two games and leads the league in points as well as goals. He scored a hat trick in each of the first two games of the season.

C Evgeny Kuznetsov records 4 assists in the same game, raising his tally to 7 and giving the 25-year old Russian the league lead in assists as well as points.

LW Johnny Gaudreau has 1 goal and 3 assists as the Calgary Flames (1-1-0) defeat the Winnipeg Jets (0-2-0) 7-4. D TJ Brodie added another 2 goals and 2 assists in the same game.
