The Milwaukee Brewers (45-40) roll over the Baltimore Orioles (40-42) as they win 8-1 in the opener of their three-game series.

The Brewers set the tone in the first inning. RF Domingo Santana singled with one out and advanced to second base after LF Ryan Braun drew a walk. 3B Travis Shaw followed with a single and drove in Domingo Santana for the first run of the game.

Milwaukee went on to load the bases with a walk to 1B Jesus Aguilar. C Manny Pina singled next to keep the bases loaded and drove Ryan Braun home. CF Keon Broxton followed with a hit into fielder’s choice (Manny Pina out at second) to put the Brewers up 3-0. SS Orlando Arcia added another RBI single to give Milwaukee a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Milwaukee’s bats remained hot in the second. With one out the Brewers loaded the bases with back-to-back singles from Domingo Santana and Ryan Braun and Travis Shaw was hit by a pitch. Jesus Aguilar followed with a sacrifice fly ball, driving in Domingo Santana and advancing Ryan Braun and Travis Shaw one base each. Manny Pina hit a ground rule double next to put the Brewers up 7-0.

Baltimore’s manager Buck Showalter decided to replace SP Wade Miley with RP Jimmy Yacabonis. Wade Miley (3-7) threw 67 pitches, surrendering 7 hits, 2 walks and 7 earned runs while striking out 2. His ERA and WHIP rose to 5.20 and 1.73, respectively.

The Brewers decided to take Travis Shaw out of the game for precautionary reasons. Hernan Perez took over at third base.

The Orioles got on the scoreboard in the third. SS Ruben Tejada tripled to lead off the inning and came home on a groundout by Jimmy Yacabonis.

The run of the game occurred in the bottom of the frame. Orlando Arcia hit a leadoff single and took off on a hit by SP Brent Suter. He slid head-first into third base and on to the grass. He got up quickly and decided to head for home plate. He ran past third base umpire Eric Cooper, still on the grass, and spectacularly evaded three Baltimore players before getting home safely.

Brent Suter (1-1) pitched 6 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 walk while fanning a career-high 8. He now has a 3.00 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP on the season.

Manny Pina went-3-for-4 with 3 RBI. He is batting .295 and has 26 runs, 6 HR and 26 RBI this year.
